Scriptural Promise of the Rapture

But I do not want you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning those who have fallen asleep, lest you sorrow as others who have no hope. 14) For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with Him those who sleep in Jesus.

15) For this we say to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord will by no means precede those who are asleep. 16) For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. 17) Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord. 18) Therefore comfort one another with these words.
           1 Thess. 4:13-17
This is prophesied in Daniel 9:27 (read to the right)  found in the Old Testament.  We know that this individual called the abomination of desolation is the antichrist because Jesus identifies him so in the book of Matthew 24:15...“So when you see standing in the holy place (temple) the abomination that causes desolation,  spoken of through the prophet Daniel - let the reader understand.”

What Must You Understand?

This time period of 7 years, identified as Tribulation, will mark the end of the world for all practical purposes.  It can be best  described as both catastrophic and apocalyptic.  This is the time when God pours out His severe judgments on the earth.  These are delineated as the seven Seal, seven Trumpet and seven Bowl judgments.  Just the opening of  the  third  seal,  for example,  speaks of a time when a man’s daily wage will only buy him a loaf of bread.  In another example, the release of the first Trumpet judgment will cause a third of the trees and grass to be burned up.  Interestingly, a newscast given on National Public Radio (NPR) in late 2008 reported that there were over 1,200 hundred active fires taking place in California alone.

During the Tribulation; famine, pestilence's, earthquakes, nuclear war, cosmic disturbances and extremely severe weather will cause three quarters (3/4) of the entire earth's population to perish.  Based on today’s population of approximately 7 billion people, this means 5.75 billion people will die within a 7 year time span!  So severe are God’s judgments, just as Jesus said, if the time was not cut short, no man would be able to survive.  Again, I do not believe that man can fully comprehend how horrible the Tribulation will be.  The bottom line is, you do not want to be here when it occurs.

After the last Trumpet judgment is exercised, as given in Rev. 11:15, we see the Antichrist come upon the scene as never before.  The Antichrist will be the great deceiver, empowered by none other than Satan himself.  He will be given power to bring forth miracles and supernatural wonders.  He will deceive the world to believe he is Jesus Christ.  In the middle of the Tribulation, 3-½ years from the time he orchestrated the 7 year peace treaty with Israel and the world, he will take over the rebuilt Temple in Jerusalem.  His partner, the false prophet (whom many will believe is Elijah) desecrates the holy place by placing an image of the Antichrist therein.  The false prophet is given power to give breath to the image of the antichrist.  Not only that, the image can also speak and caused all who refused to worship the image of the antichrist to be killed.

Now comes a most important verse out of the book of Revelation which gives understanding to the title of this section.....

Therefore, what must you do if you miss the Rapture?  Do not take the mark of the antichrist.  Rev. 14: 9 makes this absolutely clear.  For if you do, you will be destined to torment forever and forever, which in today's terminology is that place called hell.

It is believed that a microchip, smaller than even a grain of rice, is now available which can easily contain all of our personal information and is ready for use.  Not only will those who receive the mark be able to buy and sell, but will  most likely be tracked by global positioning systems (GPS). Truly, the antichrist will subjugate the world as no other dictator ever has.  It will be his wanton desire to destroy all who do not worship him, the goal of Satan from time immorium.

This Generation

Jesus stated that the events we are seeing today are but ‘birth pangs’ (read Matt. 24).  In fact, today’s disasters actually will pale in comparison to those which will take place during Tribulation.  But how close are we to the coming of Jesus?  A key scripture answers this question in Matthew 24: 32,34....

In this scripture, most biblical scholars agree that Jesus is relating the symbol of the fig tree to Israel, which He cursed on the day when He was on His way to the Temple in Jerusalem wherein He was proclaimed as Hosanna (which means Savior) in the highest, yet was rejected by the Jewish religious leaders (Pharisees and Sadducees) that very same day!  Then, on His way back from the Temple with His disciples, the fig tree Jesus cursed was dead and shriveled up.

We most certainly are “this generation” that is alive to have seen the fig tree become alive again (reborn) as seen in the rebirth of the nation of Israel in 1948.  Therefore, Jesus tells us that the generation who is alive during that time will experience the coming of His return to earth.

The Most Important Decision You Will Ever Make

Because the possibility of Jesus coming for His believers, known as the Rapture, is so close, there can never be as an important time as right now to believe, receive and accept Him as your Lord and Savior. But even without taking the Rapture and coming Tribulation into consideration, we never know when our time on earth could end.  If Jesus truly is the only way to gain entrance into heaven, as He so claims, than the consequences of not believing Him will be disastrous.  This means that after your earthly life has come to an end, your eternal destination is fixed.  As He Himself states, you will have either made a choice to go to heaven or......hell.  Understand that hell was originally established for only satan and his angels (which are called demons).  However, if we fail to receive Jesus for forgiveness of our sins, we cannot enter a holy heaven. Won’t you chose to receive Jesus today?  He truly loves you.

As a comfort to those who receive Him,  Jesus told His disciples about the times of the end....

* Here we have direct scriptural reference to the Rapture event, that those who are Christ's will be able to escape the Tribulation, the worst period of history this world will ever experience.  What a blessing to those who know Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior.

In the best selling book series  “Left Behind” by Tim LaHaye and Jerry Jenkins, reporter Buck Williams is on an airplane to his next assignment.  Suddenly, in the middle of the flight and without warning, about a third of the passengers disappear from the airplane!  So shocking is this development, that the airplane returns to Chicago, its point of departure.  Shortly thereafter, everyone discovers that many others throughout the world have disappeared,  causing great confusion and shock.

Thus begins the “Left Behind” series.  Although a fictional story line, it is based on actual events prophesied to happen in the last seven years before the 2nd coming/return of Jesus to earth as given in “Revelation”, the last book of the Bible.  The last seven years before His actual return is known as the time of Tribulation that brings to earth unprecedented peril, mayhem, disasters, the Antichrist and a New World Order that is anything but horrifying.  In comparison, it will make WW II seem like a picnic!

However, before the seven years of Tribulation takes place, those who believe and are born again in Jesus Christ will be Raptured to meet Jesus in the air as described by Paul the Apostle in his letter to the church in Thessalonica, now  located in the area of Macedonia.  The scripture verse that explains this event is 1 Thess. 4:13-17 (which can be read to the right).

What this means is Jesus will come down from heaven on the clouds in our literal atmosphere and “snatch” His true Church out of the earth before the awful day of the Lord, which is earmarked by the onset of the Tribulation as described in Revelation.  The Bible does not give a specific time frame for the Rapture to occur.  Many believe it will occur before the Tribulation.

The Rapture is one of the most looked forward to events in the life of a Christian.  Why?  Because it is a gift from God that allows His people to avoid the wrath that will be poured out on the earth during the 7 year Tribulation (explained on the next section).  Jesus describes the Tribulation in Matthew 24:21,22 as....”For then there will be great distress, unequaled from the beginning of the world until now - and never to be equaled again. If those days had not been cut short, no one would survive, but for the sake of the elect those days will be shortened.“  Wonderfully, Paul describes how the church will be spared the wrath of God as given in 1 Thess. 1:9-10 (which can be read to the right).  The elect refers primarily to the Jews and Tribulation saints who did not make the Rapture.

What Happens After the Rapture

Therefore, when you hear of many people suddenly missing and their common identity is that they were all Christians, do not believe in those who will try to pass this off as an alien abduction.  Be assured that the media will try to convince you that there are many possibilities as what may have occurred, although, I would speculate that an alien (UFO) abduction would be most convenient and prevalent excuse used to explain away the Rapture.

Following the Rapture, an event will take place that will mark the beginning of Tribulation, the 7 year period that entails God’s wrath being poured out on the earth.  This event is heralded by the Antichrist himself, who will be the main individual responsible for enacting a peace treaty between Israel and her adversaries.
“He, the false prophet, forced everyone, small and great, rich and poor, free and slave, to receive a mark on his right hand or on his forehead, so that no one could buy or sell unless he had the mark, which is the name of the antichrist or the number of his name. This calls for wisdom.  If anyone has insight, let him calculate the number of the beast, for it is man’s number.  His number is 666.            Rev. 18: 13-16
Antichrist Defined

Then he (the Antichrist) shall confirm a covenant (peace treaty) with many for one week (means 7 years);  But in the middle of the week He shall bring an end to sacrifice and offering (in the 3rd rebuilt Temple).

And on the wing of abominations shall be one who makes desolate,

Even until the consummation, which is determined, Is poured out on the desolate.”
                 Daniel 9: 27
Spared from Wrath

For they themselves declare concerning us what manner of entry we had to you, and how you turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God, 10) and to wait for His Son from heaven, whom He raised from the dead, even Jesus who delivers us from the wrath to come.
       1 Thess. 1: 9,10
“Be always on the watch, and pray that you may be able to escape* all that is about to happen, and that you may be able to stand before the Son of Man”                                                                                Luke 21: 36

.....”A third angel followed and said in a loud voice ‘If anyone worships the antichrist and his image and receives his mark on the forehead or on the hand, he, too, will drink of the wine of God’s fury, which has been poured full strength into the cup of His wrath.  He will be tormented with burning sulfur in the presence of the holy angels and of the Lamb (Jesus, who is the Lamb of God). And the smoke of their torment rises forever and ever".                                              Rev. 14: 9-11
“Now learn the lesson from the fig tree;  As soon as its twigs get tender and it leaves come out, you know that summer is near.  Even so, when you see all these things, you know that it  (the coming of the Lord) is near, right at the door.  I tell you the truth, this generation will certainly not pass away until all these things have happened (which includes the time of the Tribulation as explained in the Olivet discourse in Matt.24:15-28 which can be read to the right).  Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will never pass away.”            Matt: 24: 32,34
