were set free and all debts were canceled. Therefore, for two whole years the land was to rest. Although Jehovah wanted to see His people voluntarily execute the Sabbath Rest of the Land from the day it was given as part of the Law, historical records indicate that the Sabbath Rest of the Land never took place. Yet, from the day of King Saul’s coronation in 1096 B.C. to the day Judah was invaded by the Babylonians in 606 B.C., this law was ignored for a period of exactly 70 Sabbaths or a total of 490 years. In other words, Israel failed to maintain the Sabbath Rest of the land 70 times for each seven year period.
As mentioned earlier, besides the 10 commandments given to Moses for the Israelites, there where 603 additional laws that are elaborated in both the Old Testament books of Deuteronomy and Leviticus. In both books, God specifically spells out the blessings if the Israelites would follow the law and the ensuing curses if they broke them. In Leviticus 26: 33-35 we find what specifically will happen if the Sabbath Rest of the Land is not kept.
This prophetic warning was indeed fulfilled when both Judah and Israel were invaded and their captivity to Babylon officially began in 606 B.C., with Jerusalem being totally destroyed on 587 B.C. as given in II Chronicles 36: 17-23 (see scripture reference to the right).
It is interesting to note the time relationship expressed by the Sabbath Rest of the Land and the following New Testament scripture found in Matthew,
As Jesus told Peter that he should forgive someone 490 times, one wonders if God would have stayed His hand from allowing the Babylonians to take and ransack Jerusalem if Israel would only have begun to repent for its rebellion. We know that the prophet Jeremiah was specifically raised by God to admonish and warn Israel of impending destruction and their captivity by the Babylonians. Would God have relented from this judgment if Israel truly would have repented? Of course, we don’t know, although it is stated in 2 Chronicles 36:15 that the Lord sent His prophets because He had compassion on His people (the Jews) and on His dwelling place (the Temple). But we do know from scripture that the Israelites not only rebelled against the Sabbath Rest of the Land, but also committed abominations against the Lord by polluting His sanctuary as given in 2 Chronicles 36:14 (see scripture reference to the right). When God saw that there was absolutely no remedy for their waywardness and rebellion, He used King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon to destroy and ransack Jerusalem. This is attested to by the following scriptures given in 2 Chronicles 36: 17-21 which specifically states that the Israelites were carried off to Babylon “to fulfill the word of the Lord by the word of Jeremiah, until the land had enjoyed her Sabbath Rest, to fulfill threescore and ten years (70 years). We do know historically that through the Babylonian captivity the land did enjoy its prescribed Sabbaths for exactly 70 years.”
The Accuracy of Bible Prophesy
Prophesy was established by God and its ownership belongs Him. Prophecy and its ministry are solely of God and can be confirmed and authenticated by its fulfillment. Proof of this is given in that over one-quarter of the entire Bible contains prophetic information. Many of these prophesies have already been fulfilled, as has been presented in this book. Investigation reveals false religions who portend to be authentic such as the Koran (Islam), the Veda (Hindu) and others like them do not contain detailed and specific prophesies or are blatantly false. For example, the Hindu Vedas state that on the backside of the moon (since the moon does not rotate, one side always faces the earth) civilization will be found to exist there. Of course we now know this prediction is ludicrous.
It is impossible for man to consistently prophecy specific events with any accuracy unless you are so directed by the one and only true God. This fact alone proves that books of this nature are written not under the authority and direction of God but of man and/or Satan. Other false books such as the Watchtower (Jehovah Witnesses) and the Book of Mormon (Mormonism) contain both Godly prophecy and secular prophecy. This is because the prophetic statements which are Godly are scriptures taken directly from the Holy Bible. Any other prophecy is of man and generally has a 2% accuracy rating. For example, the Book of Mormon was proclaimed by Joseph Smith to be the most correct of any book on earth. Yet, there have been over 4,000 changes made in this book since its 1830 publication.’1 This book is wrought with so many false prophecies, that any individual reading this it should be aghast at its recision rate. Sadly, such religious orders or cults never expose an individual to its failures. In a report entitled “The Shattered Crystal Ball”, a study was performed to determine the success rate of the ten top psychics over a three year period, from 1976-1979. It found that 98% of all their published predictions were INCORRECT! Not only this, six out of the ten psychics were wrong 100% of the time as recorded in this study!’2
There is one instance where psychic ability does appear to have a high accuracy rating. This is in a psychic ability in being able to tell details about another individual’s life such as his occupation, date of birth, social security number, etc. This information is made available to the psychic and all its derivative forms through an evil spirit known as a familiar spirit. It is beyond the scope of this book to detail the different spirits that Satan commands to his advantage in attracting people to be his followers. Suffice it to say, this knowledge imparted to a psychic and their ilk does give them a rather high measure of credibility. This is because credibility is established by a psychics use of this information mixed in with guesswork involving the future, which more often is wrong than correct. People fall for these mediums because they are sold on what they know about the person. It is interesting to note that the Mosaic law of God commanded severe penalties to those involved with the occult. For example, Exodus 22:18 (see scripture reference) commands all witches to be put to death. False prophets were also put to death as given in Deuteronomy 18:20 and all those involved in occult practices such as sorcery, astrology, enchantments, fortune-telling, divination, tarot card reading, soothsaying, magic, etc. were to be thrown out of the camp as given in Deuteronomy 18:10 (see scripture reference). Invariably this meant death to the person since he or she could never survive in the desert for more than a day without water. As well, the New Testament also warns against those who practice such things, for they will not inherit the kingdom of God as given in Galatians 5: 20.
The only other mechanism which validates the accuracy of prophesied events is based on the probability of mathematics. If you where to consider all the prophecies of God which have been fulfilled and state that it could only be because of chance or luck, then it would worth looking at the odds to see if such an assertion is true. Let us consider your chances of winning the lottery. Most have played it and have a pretty good idea how hard it is to win. If the state lottery only had two numbers to guess from, let us say 1 and 2, then you would have a 1 in 2 chance of correctly guessing the number you choose, or 50%. If you had to correctly guess one digit from 1-9, your chances would decrease to 1 in 9 chances or 11%. If two digits were involved, a multiple of ten is now introduced because you go from 1 to 99, giving you 1 in 99 chances (or 1%). Now comes the bad news. Just by adding another separate digit to this absurd guessing game, you now decrease your odds by the multiple of that digit. So, if you had to guess a number from 1 to 9 and a number from 1-99 together, your chances of correctly guessing this number is based on the formula for calculating probability... (1 guess out of 9 numbers = 9 possible numbers) and (1 guess out of 99 numbers = 99 possible numbers) so that 9 x 99 = 891 different number combinations that are possible. Now look what happens when you increase the digit count as follows…. 99 x 99 = 9,801 (0.01%), 99 x 99 x 99 = 970,000 (0.001%). Finally, most state lotteries require you to guess 6 to 8 of two digits series correctly. Therefore, just by taking a 6 two digit series….99 x 99 x 99 x 99 x 99 x 99 = 941,480,149,401 or almost one chance in one trillion that you will guess the state lottery correctly. Are you ready to put down another $100 to the next Lotto game knowing that you have one trillion more chances of losing than winning?3
There are over 300 individual prophesies in the Old Testament about the coming of Jesus Christ in His first advent. To determine the probability that the Bible correctly guesses all that it prophesies, the following must be done. First, conservative limits on the possibility factors must be established on each prophecy. For example, we would have to establish there is one chance in twelve that Jesus would come from the tribe of Judah as prophesied in Genesis 49:10 since twelve tribes of Israel descended from Jacob. In the prophecy given in Zechariah 11:12 that Jesus would be betrayed for 30 pieces of silver, we establish a 1 in 30 chance based on the total number of coins that were given to Judas Iscariot (as he was given between 1 and 30 coins). This would be a most conservative possibility factor as the head of Christ may may have been worth 80 silver coins (or more) to the high priests. Adding another 298 prophecies and multiplying each one by their possibility factors, it has been calculated that there is one chance out of 8 raised to the 132nd power that Jesus was a lucky guess of those who predicted that He would come to earth. In other words, the number 8 is followed by 132 zeros after it.’ This number is so great that it can only be considered astronomical. Because only 200 million people populated the world at the time of Jesus, it is statistically impossible that even one person could have predicted the first coming of Jesus. This probability is increased fivefold because the Bible used five prophets all living at different times and places prophesying about the first coming of Jesus. At the same time, we know that these prophecies are real and accurate because the Dead Sea Scrolls confirmed that the prophets had indeed predicted the coming of Jesus before He actually came upon earth. For this reason, it is obvious that only God could have given the world the good news about the coming of His only begotten Son, Jesus.
Some of the most compelling evidence that proves the Bible as the inerrant word of God is the fulfillment of prophecy. The reason this is so is the Bible has been able to predict the future with 100% precision. If these predictions were not made under divine inspiration, then all man would have for their success would be chance (i.e. probability). Just to show how difficult this is, let’s take another example to correctly predict the score and winners of a football game between some of Americas favorite teams, the New York Giants and Chicago Bears. There is 1 chance in 2 that the Giants will beat the Bears or visa versa. Let us assume that the score will be between 1 and 50, and that both teams can achieve either of these scores. To determine all the possible outcomes, we multiply 2 x 50 x 50 = 5,000 (2 teams, each possibly being able to achieve up to 50 points each). So, there is only one chance in 5,000 that you will be able to predict the correct score and winner. Would you wager your salary on such a prediction? Yet, the Old Testament gives hundreds of predictions about the coming Messiah who would come and save the world (take away sin and death). We will only use 11 of them to show the improbability of them occurring by chance.
Consider the following.......................................................Odds
1) Be born in Bethlehem (Micah 5:2)............................. 1:200
2) Preceded by a messenger (Isaiah 40:3)………........... 1:20
3) Enter Jerusalem on a colt (Zech 9:9)......................... 1:50
4) Betrayed by a friend (Psalm 41:9)............................. 1:10
5) His hands and feet pierced (Psalm 22:16)…….......... 1:100
6) Wounded and whipped (Isaiah 53:5)....................... 1:25
7) Sold for 30 pieces of silver (Zech 11:12)……............. 1:100
8) Spit upon and beaten (Isaiah 50:6)........................... 1:10
9) 30 pieces of silver thrown into the Temple and
given for a potter’s field (Zech. 11:13).…….................1:200
10) Silent before His accusers (Isaiah 53:7)……............. 1:100
11) Be crucified with thieves (Isaiah 53:12)……............. 1:100
The probability estimates given are based on conservative odds. For example, most of the prophecies were given hundreds of years before their actual occurrence (for example we could assign one year for each chance before it occurred). Also, the town of Bethlehem was one town in thousands in the nation of Israel. And then multiple individuals prophesied these events, not one. Even with these conservative odds, the combined probability of just these 11 prophesies being fulfilled by chance alone (mathematical probability analysis) equals one chance in 10,000,000,000,000,000,000. In other words, there is only one chance in 10 thousand quadrillion or one million trillions that all 11 prophecies could have been predicted by chance! Of course, any rational mind knows this is impossible!4
Therefore, the only rational explanation for such accuracy is that God does exist and gave us His only begotten Son, Jesus, for you and I so that we could become sons and daughters of the Most High GOD. These prophecies do predict that Jesus died for you so you could have life everlasting. All you have to do is accept His pardon for the forgiveness of your sin. It really is that simple.
The Last Day Prophetic Visions of Daniel
While both kingdoms of Israel and Judah were in shambles and it’s people dispersed to Babylon known as the Exilic Period, there was a prophet of God by the name of Daniel whom God granted favor and compassion before the Babylonian leaders. Daniel eventually become prime minister of Babylon because he was highly esteemed in capability and his ability to interpret the dreams of Nebuchadnezzar, the Babylonian Emperor. One of the most incredible dreams Daniel interpreted came when Nebuchadnezzar decreed death to all the magicians and wise men who could not interpret a particular dream he had one night. When Daniel heard about this decree he prayed to God for compassion concerning this mystery so he and his friends would not be killed among the wise men. In typical form to the righteous prayers of a believer, God gave the interpretation of Nebuchadnezzar’s dream by a vision (Daniel 2:31-45, see scripture reference to the right). What Nebuchadnezzar saw in his dream and Daniel’s interpretation thereof was a large statute of a man composed of five different metals, each corresponding to a specific kingdom that would form the basis of predominant civilizations in the western hemisphere effecting Israel and ultimately the world. Its head was made of gold and represented the Babylonian Kingdom. The chest and arms where made of silver (less valuable than gold but harder), representing the Median-Persian Kingdom which subsequently overthrew the Babylonian Kingdom. The abdomen and thighs were made of bronze (again less valuable than silver and succeedingly harder), representing the Grecian Empire of Alexander the Great. The legs were of iron (again less valuable and also harder than bronze) which represented the Roman Empire. It is interesting to note that during the latter part of the Iron Age, which was a period of the most industrious tool making with iron, Rome was in its prime. Lastly, the feet and toes of this metallic man were made of both iron and clay (least valuable and was very brittle) representing a revised Roman Kingdom with its constitution of iron and a conglomeration of other countries that represent clay. The final portion of Nebuchadnezzar’s dream was a stone cut without human hands which came and crushed the feet of the statue of the metallic man. This stone striking the “metallic man” was a representation of Jesus. With the rock striking the feet of brittle clay, the whole statue collapses and became like chaff from the summer threshing floor. The picture given here is that a wind comes and carries all the kingdoms away, leaving no trace of their prior existence. But the stone that struck the statue becomes a great mountain and fills the whole earth. Most biblical scholars agree that the stone represents Jesus the Messiah, who is also known as the Rock, who will set up His Millennial Kingdom, the kingdom of His government on earth. His kingdom will finally have dominion over all other kingdoms and will be an everlasting one.
A number of years later, Daniel himself had a dream that greatly disturbed him. In it, he “saw” a beast that looked like a lion and had the wings of an eagle. The wings were plucked off and it stood on two feet like a man and a human mind was given to it. This was followed with a vision of another beast, one resembling a bear with three ribs in its mouth and raised up on one side followed by a third beast that appeared like a leopard which had four heads and four wings like a bird. Lastly, he dreamt of a fourth beast that was very dreadful and terrifying in appearance. It was extremely strong and had large iron teeth which devoured, crushed and trampled down the remaining beasts with its feet. It was different from all the other beasts because it had 10 horns on its head. While Daniel was contemplating the ten horns, another horn, a smaller one, came up among the ten horns (thus totaling 11 horns). Then, three of the ten horns were pulled out by the roots by the little horn before it (leaving 7 original horns and the small horn). This little horn possessed eyes of a man and a mouth, uttering great boasts (Daniel 7:4-8). Daniel sees God open the books and the beast is slain and its body is thrown into the burning fire (hell). Thereafter, Daniel sees One, like a Son of Man (Jesus always identified Himself as the Son of Man, therefore we can easily deduce this to be Jesus the Messiah), come to God and He is given an everlasting dominion, one which will never be destroyed. We can draw the parallel with Nebuchadnezzar’s dream where Jesus is the Rock that comes and destroys all the previous kingdoms and establishes an everlasting dominion.
Lastly, Daniel approaches an angel who gives him the interpretation of this dream. This is the interpretation. The four beasts are four kings who will arise from the earth. The first beast would refer to Nebuchadnezzar, the king of Babylon. The second would relate to Darius of the Median-Persian Empire with the three ribs representing the political boundaries of the three divisions of the Median-Persian Empire; the Median Empire, the New Babylonian Empire (as a portion of the Persian Empire) and the Kingdom of Egypt. The third beast would relate to Alexander the Great of the Grecian Empire with the four heads representing the four rulers who take over the leadership of the Grecian Empire after the untimely death of Alexander at age 33. This would be: Cassander, who took Greece, Macedonia and the western parts of the empire - Lysimachus, who took Asia Minor and the northern part of the empire - Seleucus, who took all the eastern parts of the empire from Israel east - and Ptolemy, who took the kingdom of Egypt and the southern part of the empire. Lastly, the fourth beast that Daniel saw with large iron teeth could only refer to the Roman Empire as related by the legs of iron as seen in the statue of the man. It devoured much because it took in all the territories ever held by the previous kingdoms and more. History proves this correct, as the Roman Empire became the largest empire in the history of the world. The king represented by this beast is the Antichrist, as portrayed as the little horn that "possesses the eyes of a man and a mouth, uttering great boasts (Daniel 7:4-8).
Since the dissolution of ancient Rome, history has seen Europe reshaped and reformed year after year. Not until the consummation of Pax Romana on March 25, 1967, which was signed by ten countries of Europe, including Italy, have events shed light on biblical prophecy by the visions given to Daniel.
Upon the writing of my first book, Signs of the Times in the early 90’s, many end time prophecy experts believed the 10 horns that Daniel saw related to those countries that were initially organized by the Common Market and reaffirmed by the signing of Pax Romana which later became the European Community, originally comprised of 10 nations. I also wrote that the feet and 10 toes of clay and iron was symbolic of a future loose confederation of European and Middle Eastern (primarily Arabic) interests. Although there are different viewpoints regarding the constitution of this kingdom in the last days, scholars now believe it most likely relates to 10 kingdoms throughout the whole earth that will eventually form a global consortium. It would not be surprising that the European Community will constitute the ruling authority of this global consortium. This is indicated by the feet made of iron and clay of the metallic man that Daniel dreamt of, which alludes to the Revised Roman Empire. However, the “clay” which is mixed with the iron, may well comprise the loose confederation of the other global nations. The common factor in this relationship is the iron which is seen in both the legs and the feet, relating to the Roman Empire. Most biblical scholars believe the last empire, the revised Roman Empire, will be responsible for ushering in the Antichrist. This is affirmed by the great and horrific looking fourth beast that Daniel dreams of which produces ten horns from which the little horn evolves, who is the Antichrist. And because the little horn comes after the 10 larger horns, it is believed that the European Community obviously must first have formed. And that has in fact occurred.
Besides the proposed Mediterranean Union, other proposals have been suggested to form other global areas into distinct regions. For example, the Trilateral Commission, a brainchild of David Rockefeller, looks to link the three major regions of the globe. This would be the 1) Americas, 2) European and African continents and the 3) Far East, which include countries such as China, India, the Orient and the southern hemisphere nations of Australia and New Zealand. However, this will not be the final consortium of nations as the scriptures so state.
Let us look at the scripture given in Revelation 17:9-12 which alludes to the formation of the last days global consortium and how the predominant view of the Revised Roman Empire consisting solely of 10 European nations in the early nineties has changed sufficiently because of present day realignments or potential persuasions.
When I originally wrote Sign of the Times, I stated, “Seemingly cryptic and very symbolic, this scripture reveals much in light of Daniel’s vision regarding the last dreadful beast he saw. The city of Rome is known to the world as the city of “Seven Hills” as the city of Philadelphia in America is known as the city of “Brotherly Love.” Therefore, the foundation of this kingdom comes from Rome whereby we get the revised Roman Empire, henceforth the signing of Pax Romana, which means Pact of Rome. This does not necessarily mean that Rome will be the physical location of these kings or the future Antichrist. It is well known that the seat of power for present day EC is located in Brussels, Belgium.”
However other biblical scholars have interpreted Revelation 17:9-12 to identify the kingdoms that historically existed prior to the time John the Apostle was given the vision regarding the revelation. Today, I would agree with these scholars in light of the greater developments that have come about regarding the European Union and other proposed unions (Mediterranean Union, African Union, etc.) that could evolve into a future 10 region global confederacy. The five of the seven heads noted in the scripture and illustrated as seven mountains relate to kingdoms that have ruled this world from ancient times. This would refer to the Egyptian Dynasty, Assyrian Dynasty, Babylonian Empire, Median-Persian Empire, and Grecian Empire of Alexander the Great. These five kingdoms previously existed before John the Apostle had received the vision for his writing of Revelation. The king (i.e. kingdom) referred to as “one is” would relate to the Roman Empire which ruled during the time that both Jesus and John (and the apostles) lived. The “other which has not yet come” would refer to the revised Roman Empire which still has to evolve as a fulfilled 10 region global confederacy. The harlot referred to means the antichrist system that is part and parcel of each wordly kingdom (symbolized by mountains) that has ever ruled the earth. Precedence for this interpretation can be given from Matthew 4: 8 where satan took Jesus up on a very high mountain and showed Him all the kingdoms of the world, alluding to the power base whereupon satan operates (i.e. high places). There is no question that the beast, who is so identified in Revelation as the Antichrist, is not only one of the heads of the revised Roman Empire but also forms the last and final kingdom unto himself, ultimately becoming a dictator of this kingdom (And the beast which was and is not, is himself also an eighth, and is one of the seven). Now, this scripture makes sense in light of the great and dreadful beast that Daniel dreamt of which had 10 horns. The small horn which emanates from one of the first 10 horns is representative of the Antichrist. And we need to remember that he originally comes from one of the ten horns represented as a kingdom and finally becomes the spokesman for this kingdom (uttering great boasts) and establishes his own powerbase, in part separating himself out from yet incorporting all. Only when Antichrist comes, will he have authority to give the last 10 kings as represented by the 10 horns the power base to control the entire civilized world. Of course, scripture clearly states that Antichrist, who is the beast, will ultimately be destined for destruction as described in the book of Revelation.
Messiah’s First Advent Foretold
Exactly 70 years after the Babylonians invaded Judah in 606 B.C., King Cyrus (next king after Darius) of the Median-Persian Empire issued a decree that allowed the Jews to return to Israel to rebuild the temple on 536 B.C. - exactly 70 years after their exile.
606 B.C. - 536 B.C. = 70 years
Thus, the Sabbath Rest of the Land was fulfilled. But, two years before this date, on 538 B.C., two very important events took place. First, the Babylonian empire was overtaken by Darius the Mede. Secondly, Daniel was seeking the Lord in order to find out what would happen to his people. At the time, he had no idea how long the exile was going to last and God’s plan for Israel until he read the writings of Jeremiah,
Daniel states that he began to study the book of Jeremiah, who prophesied:
As Daniel was praying for the sins of his people, the angel Gabriel came to give him insight and understanding regarding the arrival of Jesus, the Christ and Messiah. Please consider this most remarkable scripture, as it gives an actual time frame for Jesus' first advent, sadly missed by the Sanhedrin, Pharisees and Saducces Jewish "intelligensia". No less has occured for the "intelligensia" of this generation who sit in opulent white ivory towers ingnoring the "signs of times", much less the reality of Jesus.
“Seventy weeks have been decreed for your people (the Jews) and your holy city (Jerusalem), to finish the transgression, to make an end of sin, to make atonement for iniquity, to bring in everlasting righteousness, to seal up vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most holy place (Temple). So you (Daniel) are to know that from the issuing of a decree to restore and rebuild Jerusalem until Messiah the Prince there will be seven weeks (49 years) and sixty-two weeks (434 years); it will be built again, with plaza and moat, even in times of distress. Then after the sixty-two weeks (434 years) the Messiah will be cut off and have nothing, and the people of the prince (Satan) who is to come will destroy the city and the sanctuary (Temple). And its end will come with a flood; even to the end there will be war; desolations are determined. And he (Antichrist) will make a firm covenant (false peace treaty) with the many (numerous nations) for one week (7 years), but in the middle of the week (3-1/2 years-beginning of the Great Tribulation) he will put a stop to sacrifice and grain offering (in the third Temple); and on the wing of abominations will come one who makes desolate, even until a complete destruction, one that is decreed, is poured out on the one who makes desolate.” (parenthesis are the authors) Daniel 9: 24-27
An incredible understanding was given to Daniel regarding one of the key scriptures that identifies two very important events. First and foremost, it revealed to all the Old Testament readers the first prophecy of Messiah’s arrival on earth. This is remarkable! There are over 300 prophecies concerning the coming of the Messiah. But only Daniel 9: 24-27 fixes the date of Jesus’ first arrival to earth by giving the exact date of His crucifixion! It also gives the time frame and lsrael’s future history relative to the completion of time noted as the end of the age. Coupled with other prophetic visions given to Daniel, Ezekiel, and Zechariah, we get a lucid picture of where we are relative to the time line developed by the prophets almost 2,500 years ago!
To interpret Daniel 9: 24-27 properly, it is important to know the definitions of two Hebrew words. In the first sentence, “Seventy weeks have been decreed for your people....” The Hebrew meaning for the word “weeks” ("shabuwah" in Hebrew) literally means “seven in years”. This relates to the seventh year Sabbath Rest of the Land which we discussed earlier. Therefore, one “week” as used in the scriptures is used to signify a total of 7 years as is proven in Genesis 29: 26-30 (see scripture proof to the right), where Laban tells Jacob he must complete another “week” for Rachel whom he loved. The second word, “decreed” or “determinations” as used in the King James Version means to “cut-out” (chathak in Hebrew). It is almost unaminously agreed that God's vision given to Daniel regarding the 70 weeks of years brings in the revelation of the church. And this revelation, the time of the Gentiles, was an insertion into God's timeline for Israel. In other words, God "cut-out" a time frame of almost 2,000 years between Daniel's 69th and 70th "Week" and brought in the Church to tell the world about the New Covenant which was established by His Son, Jesus Christ.
History proves that the words given to Daniel by the angel Gabriel occurred just as they were spoken. The seven “weeks” were fulfilled precisely as it took 49 years (seven weeks) to rebuild Jerusalem, completed in 396 B.C. from the time King Artaxerxes gave his decree on 445 B.C. From 396 B.C. until the time Jesus Christ was cut-off (rejected) by the religious leaders on Palm Sunday, equals 434 years thereby fulfilling exactly 62 weeks of years as Gabriel so spoke it. Adding seven weeks and sixty-two weeks equals 69 weeks of years which leaves us with one week left of the 70 weeks as was given to Daniel from Jeremiah's writings. This leaves one week of seven years remaining, which is yet to be fulfilled in the completion of the Tribulation, or Jacob’s Trouble.
Many believed that Jesus entered Jerusalem as the Messiah on the Jewish Sabbath day of Saturday which we call Palm Sunday. This would also bring the actual day of Passover to Wednesday (the day Jesus was crucified), described in the Gospels as the “day of preparation”, the day before the High Sabbath of Unleavened Bread which fell on Thursday, the 15th of Aviv. This time frame allows Jesus to be in the tomb three full days and three full nights as He said He would be, making His resurrection Saturday at 3 P.M. (72 hours would make it 3 P.M.) the 18th of Aviv (click here to see the dateline of Jesus' crucifixion and resurrection as given in an article featured in Israel Today).
The next question that needs to be answered is, what happened to Daniel’s 70th week or last week that Gabriel spoke of Daniel 9:24, “Seventy weeks have been decreed for your people (the Jews) and your holy city (Jerusalem), to finish the transgression“? We recall that Gabriel tells Daniel that a total of 69 “weeks” (7 weeks plus 62 weeks = 69 weeks or 483 years) must pass from the issuing forth of the decree by King Artaxerxes to rebuild Jerusalem to the “cutting-off” of the Messiah. We find that a period called the Tribulation, a period of seven years, will exactly fulfill this last week to complete the dispensation of the Law, given initially to Moses for the children of Israel. In between the dispensation of Law, the dispensation of Grace was inserted. Now, the meaning of the Hebrew word "chathak", meaning “cut-out” gives true understanding to the dispensation of Grace or the Church Age. Time was “cut-out” between Daniel’s 69th and 70th week so the Church Age could be inserted to fulfill the Old Testament prophecy that Jesus would also be a light unto the Gentiles as given in Isaiah 42:1. To the Jews, the Church Age never existed for it was given as a mystery to Paul the Apostle by the Holy Spirit, whose purpose was to offer salvation to every human being on earth by believing in Jesus Christ, whether he/she be Jew or Gentile.
Here we have direct scriptural proof, as given by the Apostle Paul that Dispensational appropriation to the ages is the proper method to determine the last days we are living in. Not only that, but Paul gives admission to the fact that he was at one time a Jew of all Jews who even tried to destroy "Christianity" as noted by the following scripture.
At the end of the dispensation of Grace, which many believe will be marked by the Rapture, there can be no question that we return back to the dispensation of Law which simultaneously completes Daniel’s 70th Week. Why? Because the dispensation of Grace was inserted in the time line given in the Dispensation of the Law as the word, “cut-out” so pointedly implies. Many scholars believe the true Church of Jesus Christ will be Raptured before the Tribulation because the church is NEVER mentioned in the book of Revelation in the chapters describing the Tribulation, which is the last book of the Bible that details in minutia those seven years. The last week of Tribulation is given in a number of scriptures in both the Old and New Testaments.
Compare the above scriptures given in Daniel to that which Jesus gives in Matthew,
Now, read the following scripture given to John the Apostle, which he committed to writing in the book of Revelation:
Finally, the Tribulation is culminated by the Battle of Armageddon and ends with Jesus destroying the Antichrist and his forces in Jerusalem. This ushers in the Millennial Kingdom, the 1,000 years of peace and kingship of Messiah, Jesus Christ when He lands on the Mount of Olives and enters through the Eastern Gate of the Temple. At that time, the government will truly rest upon His shoulders, as prophesied in Isaiah 9: 6. So, for Daniel and his people, the Jews, time is finally made complete after the fulfillment of Tribulation.
As one reads Revelation, there can be no question that the last seven years brings Israel back to the dispensation of the Law thus completing Daniel’s 70th Week. No doubt, it will also be the worst period this world will ever experience. It will be a time when man will only be saved through faith and the works of perseverance, strength, stamina and endurance. As Jesus states in Matthew 24: 13, “But the one who endures to the end, he shall be saved”. Today, man is saved through faith and God’s grace, the very reason this age is called the dispensation of Grace. But when Daniel’s 70th week comes upon this world, it will only be by faith, endurance and the work of survival that man will be able to spare himself from the wrath of God as displayed in the Tribulation. For as Jesus says in Matthew 24:22, “And unless those days had been cut short, no life would have been saved.” These are sobering words. What Grace the Lord is providing mankind to receive His Son under such relatively peaceful and prosperous times. Yes, we all suffer various trials and tribulations from time to time, however there is no reasonable comparison to the time of Tribulation. It is my hope you will seriously make a decision to accept Jesus as your Savior, Lord and Messiah as soon as possible. There is such little time left.
In Daniel 12:11, the additional 75 days over the 1,260 days that make up the last 3-1/2 years of the Tribulation, is relegated to Jesus setting up the Millennial Kingdom. The first 30 days probably involves the rebuilding and cleansing of the Temple. The next 45 days after the thirty will probably be relegated to the earth being properly restored, cleansed, governments being set up and all other elements that are necessary to produce and restore a new Kingdom upon a new earth. It is interesting to note that the 45 day interval can be broken up into two parts that have a time relationship in regard to past acts that God has instituted. Moses spent 40 days on Mt. Sinai on two separate occasions. So too did 40 days pass from Jesus’ Resurrection to His Ascension. The additional 5 days seen at the end of Tribulation may have significance as that time included to commemorate and celebrate the final and absolute kingship of Jesus which He was denied when He first entered Jerusalem as King of the Jews (Messiah) until His crucifixion (a total of five days) during His first advent.
The Great 1,000 Year Sabbath Rest
In these three scriptures, we see an amazing association that gives us a clue to the time frame that God works in. Because we know that time was created by God, so too will it end by Him. Peter gives us a piece of the puzzle how this will happen. Revelation 20:1,2 above describes the thousand years that will comprise the Millennial Kingdom. It truly is a day of rest for those in Christ and also to those in the world who choose to enter it by believing and accepting the saving Grace and Lordship of Jesus. At that time, Satan will no longer be allowed to dominate the world system as he does now, roaming about the earth as the “prince of the power of the air” (Ephesians 2: 2) in order to “kill, steal and destroy”. It will truly be the Sabbath rest for all creation. No longer will there be war, crime, famine, disease, and every destructive element that we see commonly operating on the earth today. In a sense, it will be heaven on earth.
That 2 Peter 3:8 declares, “One day is as a thousand years...” should be considered a fact. In other words, it is not a guess, presumption or hope. It is an absolute FACT that should NOT escape our attention. This will be the last 1,000 years of the great time plan of earth, believed to conclude the 7,000th year of the Great Sabbath week which will mimic the time plan of the creation and restoration which is given in Genesis 2:1,2
Believing this to be true as written, wouldn't God desire for us to be aware of His time plan? It is true that He has not given us absolute dates or times regarding His Son’s return to earth because even Jesus tells us, “But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but the Father alone.” (Matthew 24: 36). For that reason, be wary and on guard of any person who would gives specific dates and times about the Lord’s return. But at the same time the apostle Paul tells the church of Thessalonica, “But you, brethren, are not in darkness, that the day should overtake you as a thief.” (1 Thessalonians 5:4) indicating that the Lord’s people will not be ignorant of the season of His coming. As it was in the days of Lot, Paul assures the Church,
Most early Jewish and Christian writers believe that from the birth of Adam to the birth of Jesus equals approximately 4,000 years. For example, the early church scholar Jerome states that there were 3,043 years from Adam to the death of Moses. It is believed Moses conducted the Exodus when he was about 100 years old and died when he was 140. Given that it took 1,718 years from Exodus to the birth of Christ, Jerome calculates 4,721 years have passed from Adam to the birth of Christ. Josephus himself reports that the total amount of time contained in the history of the Jews equates to about 5,000 years (which does not include 2,000 years of the Church Age). Added together, they almost equal the completion of seven thousand years which brings us to the conclusion of the Millennium. This would correspond to the completion of the 7th day in God’s week and takes us to the beginning of the 8th day. Interestingly, the prophet Hosea writes to his people, the Jews....
The two days given in this scripture refer to the passage of 2,000 years during the Church Age, given the context of the surrounding scriptures in Hosea. It cannot relate to any other period of history, for Israel has never been “revived, saved or delivered” of any situation relative to the preservation of the nation in either two literal days or a millennium. Some believe it infers the time Christ spent in the grave and His resurrection the third day. This is somewhat absurd because most Jews do not even believe that Jesus came 2,000 years ago as the Messiah or for that matter, that He was the Son of God. This is supported by Romans 12: 25,26 which states that a partial hardening has happened to Israel but that Israel will be saved when the fullness of the Gentiles has come in. The Jew’s earnest hope today is for what they believe is the first advent of the Messiah, which most believe will soon occur. Furthermore, Rabbi Ketina states, “The world endures six thousand years and one thousand shall be laid waste (referring to the enemies of God that shall be destroyed and Satan bound), whereof it is said, ‘The Lord alone shall be exalted in that day.’ As out of seven years every seventh (is a) year of remission, so out of the seven thousand years of the world, the seventh millennium shall be the 1,000 years of remission, that God alone may be exalted in that day.” Moreover, the Talmud, written in the second century A.D, noted that the 2,000 year period had arrived and the Messiah had not come. The question, “Where is the Messiah” is answered in the very same Talmudic passage: “He did come, but because of our sins, he went away”. Even Rabbi Rashi, an eleventh century rabbi comments, “after the second 2,000 years (a total of 4,000 years, and an incredible statement considering the Jews rejection of Jesus the Messiah who came during His first advent 4,000 year after Adam), the Messiah must have come and the wicked kingdom should have been destroyed.”
Is it possible to correlate the ministry of Jesus during His first advent to the Millennial Day concept? Consider the day Jesus began His ministry as given in Luke as He reads from the Old Testament book Isaiah 61:1-2 and omits the last sentence from verse two
If Jesus read the next sentence in Isaiah 61:2, He would have read, “and the day of vengeance of our God.” Most biblical scholars infer that this would relate to the 2nd coming of Jesus, where He redeems the earth and separates the sheep nations from the goat nations (or wheat from the tares). Interestingly, the Jewish Sabbath was held on Saturday, the Gentiles sixth day of the week. And the day of rest, when Jesus comes to reign during the Millennium, will be the seventh day, which is our Sunday.
As can be seen, there can be a variety of means in attempting to determine when Christ will come back to earth. All of them can be made to appear valid, but ultimately, we will only know when that actual day occurs. Yet, never before have so many Christians believed that the arrival of Jesus Christ is so near. Again, God promised His people they would not live in darkness to the time of His Son’s return. For this very reason, it is important that all Christians occupy and go about their Father’s business and fulfill the talents that they have been given by our wonderful Creator. At the same time, as every day passes we must sense an urgency to tell the unbelieving world that the day of the Lord is at hand.
Digging Deeper: Calculations to Messiah’s First Advent
Note: This section is provided for those who have a deeper interest and desire to see the actual arithmetic used to determine the time of Jesus’ crucifixion as given by the archangel Gabriel to the prophet Daniel. It is not necessary to read this section for understanding of future topics.
You may recall the Babylonians first began to invade the kingdom of Judah on 606 B.C. Exactly 70 years later King Cyrus (who came immediately after King Darius) of the Persian Empire issued a decree to Ezra in 536 B.C. (606 B.C. – 70 years = 536 B.C.) that allowed the Jews to return to Israel to begin rebuilding the Temple. On 520 B.C., the foundation of the Temple was laid under the direction of Zerubbabel. The Temple was completed and its dedication took place on Passover, 515 B.C. as given in Ezra 6:15-22.
Nineteen years after 606 B.C., the Babylonians overran and destroyed Jerusalem on 587 B.C. (606 B.C. – 19 years = 587 B.C.). Then, 70 years from 515 B.C., the day the Temple was dedicated, King Artaxerxes (pronounced art-ah-zur-seas) of Persia passed the decree in 445 B.C. to the prophet Nehemiah (Nehemiah 2: 1) that the city of Jerusalem could be rebuilt as shown on by the following calculation……
7 weeks x 7 years/week = 49 years………“there will be seven weeks”(Dan. 9:25)
445 B.C. - 49 years = 396 B.C., the year Jerusalem was fully restored
62 weeks x 7 years/week = 434 years………“and sixty-two weeks” (Dan. 9: 26)
434 years – 396 B.C. = 38 A.D.
The above calculations appear to contradict the Bible with regard to the age of Jesus, the length of His ministry and the date of crucifixion. Dr. Pusey states that Jesus conducted His ministry for about 3-1/2 years because the Gospel of John attests to Jesus attending at least three Passovers. The disciple Luke states Jesus was about 30 years of age upon beginning His ministry (Luke 3: 23). If we believe that Jesus followed the Levitical law, then He could not have entered the priesthood or have become a rabbi until He was 30 years of age, which agrees with Luke 13:7. The apparent anomaly of Jesus being “cut-off” on 38 A.D. as the calculations show and not 33 A.D. as proper reckoning would indicate exists because our calendar is based on the solar calendar which equals 365-1/4 days a year whereas the Jewish calendar, as previously explained, equals 360 days. The Royal Observatory in Greenwich, United Kingdom calculated the date that King Artaxerxes delivered the decree to rebuild Jerusalem as March 14, 445 B.C. One must realize this date is in our calendar system and not the Jewish one! Also, we must be aware that in calculating years between B.C. to A.D. or vice versa, one year must be omitted from the total derived because we never count a zero year. In such a case, the zero is used only as a placeholder. For example, going from 1 B.C. to 1 A.D. gives you the impression that you are passing through two years when in fact you only go through one. Therefore, we must subtract one year to give an appropriate length of time when calculating the number of years between B.C. and A.D. On the other hand, when calculating years into a calendar date, we have to add one year to give us the appropriate calendar date. Therefore, please consider the following calculations……
7 weeks + 62 weeks = 69 weeks x 7 yrs/week = 483 years (Daniel's 69 weeks of 70)
483 x 360 days/year = 173,880 days from Artaxerxes decree to the crucifixion of Jesus
173,880 Jewish days = 476.05749 years - 445 B.C. = 31.05749 years
365.25 Julian days/year where 0.05749 years = 21 days
31 years + 1 year (add a year as we calculate B.C. to A.D) = 32 yrs. + 21 days
March 14, 445 B.C. + 476 years and 21 days brings us to April 4, 32 AD.
We now have the actual calculated date of Jesus' date of crucifixion in our calendar system. In a way, this is truly incredible, as at least 500 years prior to Jesus' arrival, the angel Gabriel gave the prophet Daniel the time table for the first advent of Jesus.7
