Numerous believers have a sense that we are truly living in the last days before the return of Jesus Christ. Of these, many have thought the coming of Jesus would have happened in their lifetimes, although it did not. Obviously, this has led to disappointment for many and possibly criticism of those who have supported this notion. Consider, John the Apostle in 1 John 2:18 who wrote…”Children, it is the last hour. And as you have heard, ‘Antichrist is coming,’ even now many antichrists have come."
We know from John's writing that is the last hour. Are we to criticize and even “stone” the great Apostle John for his belief that the Lord Jesus was going to come within "the hour" and yet did not in our anticipated time frame? If John stated that it was the last hour, we seriously need to ask ourselves what time is it now regarding the coming of the Antichrist prior to the return of Jesus the Messiah?
Generally, there seem to be periods of time when hope of Messianic expectation escalates and many books and articles come forth attempting to prove, and sometimes “time” this event. When His return does not take place in the time frames predicted, discouragement often sets in and in the worse case, a possible loss of our faith, zeal, and resilience in our Christian faith and walk. My statement to this consequence is a resounding, “Let It Not Be So”! This alone would be just one reason for the writing of this book. But it is not the only one.
I will never forget the event that prompted me to become a student of endtime prophecy. One Sunday morning during our church pre-service prayer time in the month of January, 1990, I was prompted by the Holy Spirit to get my Bible which was at my feet. When I opened it, I came to the first page of the book of Joel and began reading from the first chapter. After reading a few verses, I asked the Holy Spirit what He wanted to share with me or what I should be looking for. It was as though I heard Him say, “keep reading”. Then I reached Chapter 1:15…..”Alas for the day! For the day of the Lord is near; it will come like destruction from the Almighty “. It seemed as though the words literally jumped off the page! All during the service I was both in awe and shock. My interpretation and sense of what was conveyed was that the Lord was coming, and very SOON. After service ended I told my wife what occurred. Her response was, “Oh, that’s nice”, obviously not comprehending the significance nor impact of this revelation. For those who have not received such a revelation or sense, it is my prayer and hope that this book will impart this very notion by the simple prophetic signs that are now resounding His SOON coming.
This event is what sparked a very deep interest and desire to study and know the season of the Lord’s return to the best of my knowledge. It is my conviction that we are truly in the last day of the last days. In fact, I would go so far to say that we are in the last seconds of the last minute of the last day.
The scripture that I believe fixes the time of the Lord’s return is found in Matthew 24:32, “Now learn this lesson from the fig tree: As soon as its twigs get tender (the formation of Israel as a nation) and its leaves come out (Israel’s recognition as a nation on May 14, 1948), you know that summer is near. Even so, when you see all these things (signs of the end of the age), you know that it (the day of the Lord’s coming) is right at the door. I tell you the truth, this generation will certainly not pass away (die-off) until all these things have happened.” The question that begs an answer is “what is a generation”? It will be the goal of this book to undertake this question and provide some possible answers.
It is not at all impossible to believe that we may be the generation that will see the coming of the Lord. Remember, Simeon was told by the Holy Spirit that he would not see death before he saw the Lord’s Messiah (Luke 2: 25-26). If Jehovah allowed precedent to be set by an individual as Simeon, why can we not see and be given the same as we know our God is not a respecter of persons (Acts 10:34).
Because of this conviction, it is my upmost desire to encourage the body of Christ (you) to believe that the Lord Jesus Christ is coming very SOON. New prophetic information and revelation will be revealed to prove this possibility as credible. And if you can be convinced of this, it is my sincere hope that you will become as one like John the Baptist. To prepare the way of the Lord in ways never previously envisioned. Because it is my sincere hope you will fulfill the word of the Lord as given in Matthew 28: 18…“Go therefore, and make disciples of all nations (both in your Jerusalem, Sumaria/Judea unto the uttermost parts of the world)…”. You will read and be encouraged to know that this mandate has almost been fulfilled!
It is not my intent to sow or disseminate false expectations. It has been understood from the day Jesus physically left this earth that we are to expect His imminent return at any time. However, I believe with the presentation of this material, you may well become convinced that the “Day” of the Lord is truly and seriously at hand. If so, then I pray you will be able to help others see this potential truth, for there is a great amount of work to do before His coming. Let us not let one hour go by without us laboring in the fields and doing all we can to bring this last harvest in for “Soon it will be nighttime, when no man can work” (John 9:4). I pray that this book will revolutionize and re-ignite your life for Jesus again, as it was when you first became a new creation in the Lord of lords and King of kings, Jesus Christ. He is worthy and deserves no less!
